Oh ! did I mention that the extra Vulture only costs 19pts - a bargain imho. This means in game time your opponent can flee the Cavalry Charge, You fail redirect and the Cavalry end up in the middle of nowhere and just die ! However if you have a unit of Vultures hanging around with intent ( in second charge position ) ( once again speed and fly helps ) it is highly unlikely that your opponent will take the flee option if the Vultures are going to get an easy kill.I also find that the extra Vulture helps the unit ( or even part of it ) survive. They produce 8 x Stgh 4, AP 1 attacks, this I find is normally sufficient to beat up opponents Chaff.Īlso, 2 x 2 you can ( on occasion ) assassinate the odd Wizard or two, especially if you are looking at say a Hiero ( Res 3, HP 3, No AS ) in a Wizard Bunker.īarrow Legion Cavalry ( No Character attached ) are LD 5 !!!! In line they cover an 8" ( rather than 6 " ) frontage meaning that - on occasion - they can actually Chaff 2 units at once. With Chaff you have basically 3 Choices - Scouts, Scorpions, Vultures - Scouts will hardly ever win a CC, Scorpions are imho are too slow, Vultures have the advantage of speed and fly meaning - I find - that out of the 3 Choices Vultures are the best option. With Barrow Legion ( so Lance's on Chariots and / or Cavalry ) means that it is VITAL that you win the Chaff War. Also help in taking a flanking objective or two and getting out of there without diluting your CC capability too much. However if supported with Heavy Magic they can certainly do the business against the right target. As such you have cannot consider them as a front line CC unit. Personally I would prefer spending 360 pts 2 x 3 units and save the balance ( 272 pts ) for use elsewhere.įirst you have to remember that such a unit with FCG is only 314 pts. Thus ( I tend to use Evo Master - at most - twice per Magic Phase and even then I tend to use 3 dice on both Snipes plus 2 dice on Casket ) so I don't believe that the Hourglass is a necessity with my magic setup. With Barrow, I tend to use Master Evo, Divination Adept and Casket. I'm also a big fan of the hourglass on the evo wizard, the consistency of being able to 2 dice all the spells is a big deal and that's why the item has a big price do you like the 4th vulture for its 1 extra attack or just more wounds in the unit? Thats if you're 10 models wide and don't move so you can volley the third rank. They are normally just a bunker to hold wizards but with the nomarch you are spending 500pts to do less then 6 wounds a turn to a res 3 target with no armor. Large units of Skeleton Archers are a bit of a point trap in my opinion. The skeleton cav isn't used successfully very often, someone did do really well with them as a Pharoah delivery system but they really aren't good for much else.Ī unit of 7-8 shabti archers is a great unit that scores, plinks a few wounds at range, and can hold up in combat as long as you throw some buffs at it. I do agree that catapults are an all or nothing choice. I disagree with a lot of wombats suggestions but that doesn't mean they won't work for you in your gaming group.
